Based in Livingston, ESS Recruit’s client comprises of a group of European companies engaged in the design, development, manufacture and distribution of analytical systems, life science equipment and laboratory instruments with operations dating back to 1920.  Now part of a global multinational business, they are setting up and looking to aggressively expand a new research and development operation based from Scotland, supporting a Lab refrigeration instruments business in the group. One of their initial key hires is an Electrical Engineer.

Reporting into the Technical Change Manager, the Electrical Engineer designs, tests, and develops electrical systems for refrigeration products, encompassing component selection, distribution of AC/DC power, signal and control wiring, creation of system cable harnesses and wiring diagrams, ensuring product electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility, and supporting overall product reliability. Some of your core responsibilities will include:

Primary engineer for electrical system design.
Select components, design system electrical layout and wiring.
Share in developing unit control systems, ensure the safety and reliability of the electrical subsystem supports the overall system’s safety and reliability.
Ensure electrical design fulfills relevant regulatory requirements and standards and exceeds them where appropriate.
Document system wiring and cable harnesses for transfer to production.
Ensure product manufacturing and service needs are considered and incorporated during design.
Develop test methods for production where appropriate in conjunction with the Production Engineers. The relevant candidate is qualified to HND/degree calibre in Electrical Engineering. You are a proven Electrical Design or Electrical Development Engineer with demonstrated competence in system wiring design and accompanying documentation. Candidates should have knowledge of control systems, including relay logic and fail-safe design principles. Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, including electrical safety and EMC, and their implications for design and test is taken as a given.  This could also suit a control systems engineer or an experienced harness and panel wiring person looking to move into a mainstream electrical design role.
We will look at Electrical Engineers from a range of Industrial equipment or product design backgrounds but we would be especially keen to hear from candidates with design of systems containing mains-powered rotating equipment, heating or cooling elements, etc., preference for products in series production rather than bespoke installations.

If you are really committed to joining something new, fresh and totally innovative then we would love to hear from you.  The scale and variety of opportunities and technology to work on makes this one of the best and most exciting opportunities in Central Scotland.  A highly competitive salary and package tailored to your experience is on offer for the right candidate.  However, the chance to be part of something truly unique makes this too good to refuse.  There may be occasional travel to the Romania site.
