Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a renowned Environmental Planning, Design and Management Consultancy with the hire of a Senior Environmental Planner in Cardiff. This is advertised as full-time (37.5 hours Monday to Friday) however our client has a strong track record in flexible working.

You will be part of a team of dedicated planning professionals who often work closely with landscape design, landscape planning, ecology, transport and carbon management colleagues. In this role you could contribute to a range of private and public sector projects in the fields of planning and environmental policy, strategy, assessment and implementation, including:

Policy research and evaluation;
Developing and applying robust methodologies for undertaking research, literature reviews and information gathering;
Applying an understanding of ecosystems services and natural capital;
Research into a broad range of topic areas including climate change adaptation and mitigation, and management of natural resources and built assets;
Data organisation and analysis;
Strategic Environmental Assessment and Habitats Regulations Assessment of plans and strategies.

About You

Educated to degree level, ideally in a relevant planning or environmental degree e.g., planning, geography, environmental science, sustainable development. Or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and expertise.
Experience of managing environmental planning or relevant research projects either through previous consultancy or 'client-side' experience.
Excellent report writing and numeracy skills.
Good communication skills and a proactive approach to building relationships with colleagues and clients.
Experience of policy focused research, including the development of evidence to inform planning policies
Experience of undertaking, managing and/or commissioning Sustainability Appraisals.
Experience of line management and mentoring.
An organised and efficient approach to managing your own and others' work within tight deadlines.
Personable with strong people skills.
Appetite for continuous learning, problem solving and professional development.
An enthusiastic and flexible attitude
